Biographical history

Miriam Vineberg (Dec. 25th, 1918 - March 10, 2004) was a prolific writer of Yiddish poetry, essays, stores, and critiques. She was born in Fabyanits (Fabianetz), Poland. Daughter of Simon Vineberg and Ida Saltz. Sister of Shalom Vineberg, Yisroel Carmon of Israel, Bella Zamir, and Yehuda Vineberg. Miriam arrived in Montreal in 1922. She graduated from Folks Shule and she went on to study at the Université de Montréal. She worked as a teacher at the Folks Shule and Abraham Reisen schools. Miriam published literary articles, poems, stories, and children’s tales in: Shriftn (Writings), edited by Abe Gordin; Kinder tsaytung (Children’s newspaper); the monthly Dorem (South) and Di prese (The press) in Buenos Aires; Fraye arbeter shtime (Free voice of labor), Oyfsnay (Afresh), and Afn shvel (At the threshold)—in New York; Keneder Adler (Canadian eagle) and Montreoler Heftn (Montreal notebooks) in Montreal; Der veker (The alarm); and Folks-shtime (Voice of the people) in Poland. Until 1955 she wrote under the name Miriam Vaynberg.

Married Shabsai Perel (August 28th 1906 - April 22, 1976) on June 26th, 1941 at Poale Zedek. Together they had one son, Shloime Perel. Later, Miriam remarred Moishe Krant.

Scope and content

Mainly made up of Miriam Vineberg's correspondence. Also contains photographs, local Jewish publications, Shloime's school workbooks, and documentations re. Shloime's law suit against Le Devoir for the improper translation of his article.
