Samuel D. Cohen Fonds

The fonds consists of three files of documents relating to the public life of Samuel D. Cohen. The first file contains certificates. The second file contains the records of a contract arbitration between handbag manufacturers and the pocketbook workers' union, for which Cohen acted as arbitrator. The third file is a scrapbook containing primarily news clippings mentioning Cohen.

Samuel Jacobson Fonds

The fonds contains records which attest to Samuel Jacobson's involvement in the fields of sustainable energy, demography, and the global economy with an emphasis on profit sharing as an economic solution. A vast amount of correspondence between Jacobson and government and corporate leaders reflect these endeavors; a number of pamphlets, articles, and conference notes further demonstrate Jacobson's involvement.

Samuel Lapitsky Fonds

The fonds contains materials pertaining to Samuel Lapitsky's life, with an emphasis on his relationship to the Jewish Public Library. This includes records surrounding a dinner honouring Lapitsky at the Jewish Public Library in 1955, in the form of newspaper announcements, telegrams, photographs, dedications, and programs. Likewise, photographs of and programs for the Samuel Lapitsky Collection exhibition of paintings at the Jewish Public Library in 1956 are contained in the fonds. A number of other certificates and dedications acknowledging Lapitsky's support can be found in the fonds, as well as information pertaining to the Samuel Lapitsky Scholarship at McGill University.

Some personal records, including portraits of Samuel Lapitsky, family members, and classmates, as well as Lapitsky's and his wife Rose's passports and registration, can be found in the fonds. Finally, a series of photographs (and copies of photographs) from Itzik Feffer and Solomon Mikhoels' visit to North America with the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee are also included.

These seven records document Sara and Abram Barac's transition from Germany to Canada after the Second World War. The documents and issuing authorities included are as follows:

  1. Two Certificates of Identity for the Purpose of Immigration [to Canada] issued by The International Refugee Organization (U.S. Zone of Germany)
  2. One Provisional Marriage Certificate and two Birth Certificates issued by the Central Committee of Liberated Jews in the American Occupation Zone in Germany
  3. A Certificate for Professional Qualification [as an electrician] issued by the International Refugee Organization (I.R.O) Displaced Persons Professional Testing Board
  4. One Certificate from the Jewish religious congregation of Bytom, Poland, attesting to the identity of Abram Barac and his role in the congregation as the head of the ritual bath

Sharon Nelson Fonds

The fonds contains a number of revised and edited drafts of many of Nelson's poetry compilations, including Family Scandals (1991), Grasping Men's Metaphors (1993), and The Work of Our Hands (1998). The records demonstrate the processes by which Nelson revised her own drafts, shared her revisions with friends and colleagues, and played with formatting and layout.

The fonds also contains some correspondence Nelson exchanged with previous archivists at the Jewish Public Library Archives, programs for addresses given by Nelson and speech notes, and several essays by and about Nelson.
