Stacey Bank was a close friend and the Executor of Sara and Abram Barac's estate. After Sara and Abram passed away, Stacey retained their documents (the family had declined them). When Stacey Bank passed away, he entrusted these documents to his wife, Aline Bank, who reached out to the JPL Archives in the Summer of 2021 to donate the materials.
Scope and content
These seven records document Sara and Abram Barac's transition from Germany to Canada after the Second World War. The documents and issuing authorities included are as follows:
- Two Certificates of Identity for the Purpose of Immigration [to Canada] issued by The International Refugee Organization (U.S. Zone of Germany)
- One Provisional Marriage Certificate and two Birth Certificates issued by the Central Committee of Liberated Jews in the American Occupation Zone in Germany
- A Certificate for Professional Qualification [as an electrician] issued by the International Refugee Organization (I.R.O) Displaced Persons Professional Testing Board
- One Certificate from the Jewish religious congregation of Bytom, Poland, attesting to the identity of Abram Barac and his role in the congregation as the head of the ritual bath
