Margaret Atwood is a Canadian poet and novelist and essayist. She has published many critically acclaimed novels with her novel The Handmaids Tale being adapted for television. She has received many awards, including The Governor General's award and two Booker Prizes. She lives in Toronto.

David Augenfeld was active in the Lithuanian partisan resistance in the Vilnius ghetto. Escaping with his future wife, Liba, in 1943, they joined the Jewish unit of the Voroshilov, a partisan group active in Narocz forest, where they remained until liberated by Soviet forces in July 1944. They immigrated to Montreal in 1948 and Augenfeld set up a knitting mill, which he ran for thirty years. He and Liba were also involved in the Yiddish programming of the Jewish Public Library, where he served as president from 1977-1979.
