Biographical history
Fiszel (Philip) Cola was born in Lodz, Poland in 1900. As a child he recieved a traditional education attending a school run by his uncle. In 1919, Mr. Cola joined the Polish army where he served for three years. In 1939, Mr. Cola and his family, including his wife and two children, were sent to a Nazi concentration camp. Mr. Cola was the only surviving member of his family. Mr. Cola immigrated to Canada in 1959 and was one of the founders of the Lodzer Farband. Mr. Cola was known to write essays and poems, which he frequently presented to Yiddish-speaking audiences.

Scope and content
The Philip Cola Collection consists predominently of Mr. Cola's poetry and writing, though also includes recordings, personal correspondence and documentation, as well as artefacts.
