Biographical history

Oscar Faerman was born in Romania in 1895. He moved to Montreal in 1914 and in 1924 he married Rachel “Rae” Faerman at the B’nai Jacob. Oscar and Rae had two children together: Pola Janet Spiegel and Donald Faerman, they lived in a house built by Oscar in Westmount, Montreal. Oscar also had four siblings: Stella Charness, Ben Faerman, Ruby Faerman, and Jack Faerman, their parents were M. Faerman and Dolie Greenberg.

In 1920 Faerman opened a women’s clothing company with Morris Gross (Jeffery Miller’s grandfather) called Comfort Kimona. Comfort Kimona was successful and allowed Faerman to begin his philanthropic work at various Jewish organizations in Montreal. Faerman provided the Jewish Public Library with a donation of 50,000 dollars in 1955, after which he was honored with a collection of fiction named after him.
