Administrative history

Maison Parent-Roback, so named in honor of two famous activists, Madeleine Parent and Léa Roback, brings together eleven member organizations under one roof that have a common goal: improving the status of women.
Founded in 1997, La Maison Parent-Roback brings together under one roof eight Quebec groups of women's groups, the Secretariat of the World March of Women, as well as the only French-language feminist publishing house in America, a documentation center on the subject of women and a research group bridging women's groups and academia. Together, the twelve members of La Maison Parent-Roback represent 720 regional groups and their actions directly affect more than 120,000 people annually.
Maison Parent-Roback is an essential nerve center for the Quebec women's movement and intervention in the area of women's issues. It reflects the collective strength of women's groups who, through this daring and innovative project, seek to consolidate feminist civil society.
The uniqueness of the MPR contributes to the strengthening of solidarity, mutual aid and collaboration between feminist groups and their allies.
La Corporation Parent-Roback, founded in April 1997, has been made up of national groups working to promote the status of women since its inception.
In 1996, the members signed an agreement with a group of technical resources in housing, Bâtir son Quartier, which supported them in the various stages of the realization of their project.
After examining 75 proposals, the groups set their sights on 110 rue Sainte-Thérèse, an 18th century building completely restored in the early 1990s and to which only a few rental improvements remain.
The members moved in July 1998 and the official inauguration took place in September of the same year.
Maison Parent-Roback is today inhabited by the spirit of courage and confidence of two women who have forever marked the feminist movement: Madeleine Parent and Léa Roback.
"This house is more than just a place for us. We want to give the women's movement a home for everyone, once and for all! We want women of future generations to be able to benefit from a tool that will allow them to be free, daring, creative and active so that the rights of women and of all people who are discriminated against are recognized and implemented. Having a storefront means that we are here to stay, acting in favor of a social transformation marked by the seal of the right to justice, to respect, to equality, to hope. - Céline Martin, President, inaugural address, July 1998.
Maison Parent-Roback has an international influence. Indeed, several representatives of feminist movements from different countries visit us regularly. It is also in this house that the numerous delegates of the World March of Women were welcomed in 2000. Quebec has now become an example for many groups of women around the world. The creation of such a house in their country is now part of their dreams!
In May 2017, Maison Parent-Roback, whose members' needs are growing day by day, decided to sell on 110 rue Ste-Thérèse and acquire another huge building on 461 rue Jean-Talon Ouest, Montreal, in a popular district of Villeray / St-Michel / Parc-Extension.
The renovations for phase 1 were completed on November 16, 2017. The tenant member groups began moving on November 17, 2017 and gradually moved in on November 21, 2017.
Phase 2 remains on the ground floor due to lack of resources. This part will mainly constitute the multifunctional and multimedia rooms and a kitchen for meetings and other socio-economic activities of the members and surrounding community.
