Biographical history
Berish Weinstein was born in Rzeszów, Austria-Hungary (present-day Poland). He was a Jewish American Yiddish poet.
He spent the years of the First World War in a high school in Reichenberg, in the present-day Czech Republic, before moving to Vienna in 1923 to pursue his studies. Two years later, he moved to New York, where he published his first book, Brukhvarg (Fragments) in 1936. He moved from the expressionistic, modernist style of this first publication toward a more classical style in the postwar years, infused with Jewish nationalism, the memory of the Holocaust, and pride in the birth of the State of Israel.
