History
Zelig Bardichever was a Yiddish poet and composer from Bessarabia. He was born on June 6, 1903 in Bălți, Russian Empire (now in Moldova). His poems and songs were written in a folkloric style and described the lives and poverty of artisans and common Jews in the towns of his native Romania. Although he died young and many of his songs were not properly documented, some of them were published and performed during his lifetime, most notably by the singer Leibu Levin. Bardichever's songs were published after his death through the efforts of Levin and writer Hersh Segal, and were performed in following decades by multiples Jewish singers throughout the world.
