Adele Wiseman was born in Winnipeg in 1928 to parents who immigrated from Ukraine to Canada five years earlier. Considered one of Canada's most well regarded authors of the twentieth century, she wrote about Jewish life in Canada. The environs of her North-End Winnipeg neighbourhood of Jewish, German, Ukranian, and Slavic immigrants inspired her early novels.

Shloime Wiseman was born March 10, 1899 in Dunayivtsi (in modern day Ukraine). Wiseman came to Montreal in 1913 and was given his first teaching job, which began his lifelong career as an educator and scholar. He became principal of the Jewish People's Schools in 1920 at age 21 and held the post until his retirement in 1971. He received his Bachelor's and Master's from McGill University. Wiseman pioneered the Jewish day schools in Montreal, and he founded and served as first dean of the Jewish Teachers' Seminary in 1952.

In addition to his career in education, Wiseman was a writer and translator. He first translated an anthology of American short stories into Hebrew in 1953, and in his retirement, Wiseman translated the "Discourses of Epicteus" from classical Greek into modern Hebrew. He also prepared two anthologies of Yiddish literature and was frequently published in literary and educational publications.

He married his wife, Annie, in 1920, and together they had two children, Gedaliah and Devorah. He passed away in 1985.
