History
Abraham “Abe” Rother (1894-1967) was a businessman and world traveler from Montreal. He was likely the son of Victor Jacob Rother and Gittel (Gertrude) Alexander (later wife of Mr. A. Sanft) of Montreal. The Rother Family were involved in the garment industry in Montreal, many of whom were appointed to administrative positions in the Wartime Prices and Trade Board during the Second World War. Abe was close with his family, in particular his brothers Louis Rother (1889-1957) and Harry Rother (ca. 1887-1960), as well as Harry’s children, Lt. Mortimer “Morty” Rother (1919-1993) and Helen Marion (1916-1995).
Abe travelled extensively across Canada and the world. This included hunting trips to Lac des mauves (Quebec) and British Columbia, a 15-day cruise to the Norwegian Fjords and Northern Cape, as well as a 1956 world tour (including San Francisco, Honolulu, Tokyo, Odawara, Kyoto, Nikki, Hong King, Bangkok, Calcutta, Banaras, New Delhi, Agra, Karachi, and Rome).
