Chaim Maydeck Fonds

The fonds contains records pertaining to the life and work of Chaim Maydeck, with an emphasis on his extensive journalistic career. Many originals and copies of newspaper articles produced by Maydeck throughout his career can be found in the fonds from publications including Keneder Adler and Al HaMishmar, as well as some correspondence with politicians and colleagues relating to his journalistic career. Some personal materials, like press cards, diplomas, and invitations, are also in the fonds, as well as records relating to a 1955 plane crash which killed two of Maydeck's family members--including correspondence, court reports, and newspaper clippings.

The bulk of the fonds is comprised of records pertaining to Charles Lazarus' career as a prolific journalist. Numerous newspaper clippings and copies of articles written by Lazarus during his time at Montreal Star, The New York Times, Toronto Star, Variety Magazine, London Jewish Chronicle, and Jerusalem Post can be found in the fonds in an array of genres from film and theatre review and travel writing to politics, urban development, Canadian-Israeli relations, and Expo 67.

A number of additional records, like receipts from his travels, visa applications, correspondence with hotels, and trip itineraries attest to his specialty as a travel writer. Job applications, financial information for staff, and correspondence with publication companies reflect Lazarus' various positions of employment in his career; a number of awards and certificates attest to his success in the field, and an edited set of memoirs reflecting on his career.

Additionally, some personal records can be found in the fonds including correspondence with family and friends, several family photographs, information pertaining to his wife Ruth Lazarus' schooling, and personal agendas and memos.
